Registered Dietitian

Hi and welcome to HerGreenLife!

I live in St. Louis, Missouri with my green-thumb partner and our kiddo.

I started HerGreenLife in 2009 as a way to share my passion for environmental sustainability and preventive health (i.e., preventing chronic disease, obesity, etc.).  Fortunately, these two interests are complimentary, as many “green” practices also enhance health and vice versa.

A quick example:  Making trips by bike instead of by car reduces your carbon footprint and provides a daily source of physical activity.

Simple, right?

Not so fast!  While I’m sure you can think of many other examples of the environmentally sustainable choice also being the healthier choice, actually making these choices, when the design of the places we live often discourage them, can be a little tricky.  By sharing stories, ideas, and information, I hope to inspire others to make little or not-so-little lifestyle changes, despite challenges.

These days, most of my posts focus on biking, our garden, and the tasty, healthy meals we enjoy.  In other words, I write about tastefully fueling active transportation, with some posts on other aspects of green living in the mix.

I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Community Health with a concentration in Behavioral Science and Health Education, and I am a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). In 2015, I went back to school to deepen my background in nutrition. I completed dietetics/nutrition coursework as well as a dietetic internship, and I am now a registered dietitian (RD).

I’ve used a bicycle for transportation in St. Louis for over fifteen (!) years now, and I am a cycling instructor with CyclingSavvy, an amazing adult traffic cycling course that breaks down myths and provides the confidence and skills you need to go by bike. These days I am a very part-time bike commuter.
