Full moon bike ride

Instead of biking straight home the past two Tuesday nights, we took some fun detours.  Last week we went to Sweet Art for some cupcake deliciousness.

The moon has been rising very early lately (before 4pm).  I biked to last night’s destination (a pizza place) under a gorgeous full moon in the dusky dark blue sky.  Although there are plenty of times that I wish I had it, last night being one, I generally don’t carry the camera because it is just one more thing to lug around.  I enjoyed the moon very much in the moment.

On the way home, we biked through Tower Grove Park.  It’s a bit risky in the dark because it’s hard to see all of the speed bumps.  However, the dark has advantages: two raccoons scurried across our path, and a bit later, something large swooped right in front of us!  We think it was an owl.

The lovely, although chilly, evening, complete with full moon and owl, provided a great backdrop for the ride.  As I pedaled up our alley, it seemed an appropriate ride to cap my 4 years and 5 months of bike commuting.  Le sigh . . . .

Green gift

Recycled

For our one-year anniversary, my parents gave us a set of green green glasses (yes, I meant to type the word “green” twice).  They’re made out of recycled green glass.  Lovely!

Also, I noticed that for some reason (i.e., blogger error) my Thanksgiving day post was not, in fact, posted on Thanksgiving day.  If you’re curious, it’s available now, and you can read it by clicking here.  If you like cute things, I would highly recommend it.

Happy Buy Nothing Day!

What are you going to do with all the time you’re not standing in line, fighting for parking spots, and stressing over whether or not you’ll get the last thingamajig that the store has in stock?

Here are some ideas:

  • Catch up with family or friends: call, email, or send an old-fashioned letter.
  • Brainstorm gift ideas that don’t perpetuate the cycle of “stuff.”  What can you give?  Time and talent: sewing, knitting, baking, organizing, giving really good back rubs, babysitting.  What gifts would support local artisans or businesses?
  • Grab a family member or friend and go for a walk or a bike ride.
  • Prepare a special meal.
  • Rediscover the board games that are buried in your closet.  Don’t have any board games?  What about a pack of cards?  No cards?  Try charades — you only need two things: some scrap paper and a pen or pencil for collecting ideas.

What are your ideas for Buy Nothing Day?

Happy Thanksgiving!

As a Thanksgiving treat (of the inedible kind), I found some intense cuteness for you.  Getting to it will require a little bit of work, but it is worth it!

First, click on this link http://www.northernmainephotos.com/.  Then click where it says “Click to Enter Site.”  A new window will open.  There will a menu in the upper left corner.  Move your mouse on top of “Gallery” in the menu.  A new menu will appear.  Move your mouse down to “Paul Cyr,” then up to “PC Bear Monitoring.”  Click on “PC Bear Monitoring,” and prepare yourself for the incredible cuteness that lies within — baby bear cubs!

*As others have pointed out, baby bears are very cute but are best viewed in exactly this way — in photographs taken by trained professionals.  This really should go without saying, but there are always people out there who show a complete lack of common sense!
